The garden in Morioka Central Public Hall was started in 1669 during the reign of Shigenobu Nanbu, the fourth lord of Morioka, for the cultivation of medicinal herbs for use in the castle, and was called "Oyakuen.
Nowadays, it is crowded with many tourists as a famous spot for autumn leaves.
