Hachimantai Dragon Eye (Kagami-numa)

Kagami-numa is located on the Hachimantai mountaintop promenade. It is said that the appearance of the melting snow in spring resembles the eye of a dragon, hence the name ``Hachimantai Dragon Eye.'' If you are lucky, you can see it from mid-May to mid-June.

One cherry tree in Tamenai

A single cherry tree blooms heavily on a small hill overlooking Mt. Iwate in the distance. When the shrine was relocated, this cherry tree, which was the only one left in the area where the shrine once stood, blooms beautifully every year and is a sight to behold. It is not known when it was planted, but it is thought that it was a sacred tree. It has become widely known as the filming location for the movie "Operetta Tanuki Goten" starring Joe Odagiri, and cherry blossom viewing visitors come from inside and outside the prefecture. On a clear day, the contrast with the blue sky is spectacular! *This is private property, so please be careful when entering the area.

Appi plateau

A plateau of approximately 3,500 hectares that extends to 40 degrees north latitude, centered on Mt. Appi. The walking path through the secondary beech forest is popular as an easy trekking course. You can see alpine plants, wild vegetables, mushrooms, and a breeding ground for the forest tree frog.
