Former Ishii Prefectural Residence

It was built in 1888-1989 as a private Western-style building for the second prefectural governor, Shoichiro Ishii, who is the current governor of the prefecture. This is the oldest authentic brick Western-style building in Morioka, and was designated as a Morioka City Historical Building in 1977.

When you cross Uenohashi from Honmachi Street, you will see a magnificent black stucco storehouse-style house on the left. Built after the Great Morioka Fire of the Meiji era, this is a clay storehouse-style building that was built by skilled craftsmen with a lot of time and effort. The expressive windows and roof give a rich impression, retaining the vestiges of a wealthy kimono wholesaler. The storehouse in the back is the gallery ``Saisono'' and the coffee shop ``Issaryo.'' Morioka City Children’s Science Museum

It was built in 1981 to help children deepen their knowledge and understanding of science while having fun. In addition to various exhibition rooms, laboratories, and workshops, there is also an 18m dome planetarium. Events such as night museums, science shows, and workshops are also held.
