Okago Christian Martyrdom Park

At the beginning of the Edo period, more than 300 Christians were martyred in the Okago area of ​​Fujisawa-cho, Ichinoseki City, also known as the Shimabara of Tohoku. The Martyrdom Park was created to convey to the present the noble history of martyrdom of Okago's predecessors, who persevered in their faith despite any persecution. The Cruz Hall in the park displays sculptures by sculptor Yasutake Funakoshi, and the historical museum recreates the appearance of the time with martyrdom dioramas and other displays. Sake Folk Culture Museum

Seki no Ichi Sake Brewery was named by Emperor Meiji's younger brother, Prince Kanin, who said, ``Make good sake that will please the people of the world.'' The ``Sake Folk Culture Museum'' inside is made up of valuable earthen storehouses that still retain traces of the time of its founding. The two-story wooden storehouse is the largest in Tohoku. Inside, some of the more than 1,600 sake-making tools are on display. You can also see the brewer's room, which enshrines Matsuo Daimyojin, the god of sake, and materials related to the production of rice, which is essential for sake. In 2006, the ``Ichinoseki Literature Storehouse'' was opened to honor 12 writers associated with Ichinoseki.

Ashitoyama Kagoiwa

This is a large rock located halfway up Murone Shrine. There is a space beneath this large rock where people can bend down, and it is said that the Confucian scholar Ashi Higashiyama, born in Shibumin, Daito Town, who loved Mt. Murone, holed up in this rock cave and meditated.
