Narushima Mikumano Shrine was built by Tamuramaro Sakagami when he pacified the Emishi (barbarian tribes). Surrounded by 1,000-year-old trees, the shrine's tranquil setting creates a solemn atmosphere similar to that of the three Kii Kumano mountains, from which the shrine takes its name. Designated as an important cultural property by Iwate Prefecture in 1979. The precincts of the shrine are home to a 4.73-meter standing wooden statue of Kabuto-Bishamonten (Bishamonten) made from a single zelkova tree.
Every May, the "Bishamon Festival and National Crying Sumo Tournament" is held to pray for the healthy growth of children.
