At the time of its opening in 1997, it was a Tendai sect temple called Nichiwazan Rengein Eihoji, but later changed to Kamminezan Chosenji and became a Soto sect temple. It is an ancient temple with a tradition of 900 years since its founding, and is the main temple of Monyo, which has over 20 temples including its grandsons. The Kobayama Kannon, which is enshrined in the Kannon-do hall in the precincts, is famous as the 26th temple of the Oshu 33 Kannon temples.
