Mt. Murone

Mt. Murone is a mountain rich in nature and has been designated as a national recreation area and a prefectural natural park. Mt. Murone is home to a large number of wild azaleas, and it is said that there are tens of thousands of them, and in June, especially at the top of the mountain, a carpet of bright red azaleas blooms all at once. It is also an independent peak, offering a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and Mt. Iwate in the distance. It has plenty of leisure facilities such as an astronomical observatory and a campground, and is also famous as a sacred mountain with a history such as Murone Shrine.

Michinoku Hydrangea Garden

*The park will be open from June 25 to July 25, 2024. For about a month starting in late June, the paths of Sugiyama will be decorated with colorful "hydrangea" flowers. About 40,000 hydrangeas of about 400 varieties are planted on the vast cedar mountain, which is more than three times the size of the Tokyo Dome, and they bloom one after another. There is also a rest area where visitors can relax and enjoy nature. Open from late June to late July every year.

Mt. Hourai

Altitude: 787.8m. It has been designated as a prefectural natural park conservation area, and is famous for its abundance of serpentine alpine plants, such as the Doudan azalea that blooms in early summer. From the summit, you can see the Kitakami Plain and Mt. Iwate in the distance.
