Mishōji Temple

Enjoji Gate

This gate was originally made from the materials used for the main gate of Waga Futago Castle. Around 1614, the then lord of Hanamaki Castle, Nanbu Hikokuro Masanao, was working on constructing Hanamaki Castle, and he salvaged the materials and used the Sannomaru Karame handiwork. It was relocated to Enjoji-zaka, where it was originally located, and is called Enjoji-mon. It has been designated as a cultural property by the city.

Toriyagasaki Park

Hanamaki Castle was originally called Toriyazaki Castle and is said to have been the stronghold of the Abe clan in the 10th century. Currently, the Nishimikado gate has been restored, and the main enclosure remains has been developed as a park. The area around the park is lined with cherry blossom trees, and is crowded with visitors during cherry blossom season. Usual best time to see: Mid-April to late April

Iwate Hanamaki Airport

Iwate Hanamaki Airport is located in the center of the prefecture, approximately 30 km south of Morioka. Regular flights to Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, and Fukuoka as well as international charter flights (Taipei and Shanghai routes) are also in operation. The airport is equipped with free parking and is Iwate's "gateway to the sky."
