Moriokashidare at Ryukokuji Temple (National Natural Monument)

Takuboku Ishikawa's maternal uncle was the temple's chief priest from 1890 to 1898, and it is said that Takuboku often visited here as a boy and received instruction in poetry. Within the precincts is the national natural monument, the Moriokashidare, which is a sight to behold in the spring.

Morioka Machiya Story Museum

Morioka Machiya Monogatari Museum opened in July 2014 with the concept of ``encountering nostalgic bustle.'' As a lively and nostalgic place for relaxation that is easy for everyone to use, it also serves as a local information center and a place to disseminate information on local culture. As a new regional core facility, we are working together with the citizens to operate it. In addition, we will take advantage of the five functions of this facility: ``interact,'' ``see,'' ``experience,'' ``eat,'' and ``buy.'' We aim to preserve and disseminate not only the charm of our facilities, but also the many fascinating lifestyle cultures of the Katayacho area as resources.

Nitobe Inazo

A thinker and international person with a doctorate in agriculture and law from Morioka City. He served as Deputy Secretary-General of the League of Nations and interacted with politicians, thinkers, and scholars from around the world, and strove to help other countries understand Japan based on his philosophy of ``becoming a bridge across the Pacific.'' His representative work is ``BUSIDO-THE SOUL OF JAPAN'', an English essay on Japanese thought, which has been translated into various languages ​​as an introduction to Japanese culture. There is a Nitobe Inazo Memorial Room in the Morioka City Ancestor Memorial Hall, where items related to him are displayed.
