Kasamatsu

It is an old pine tree that is over 600 years old, and it is called ``Kasamatsu'' because its branches look like wide-open umbrellas. It has been designated as a natural monument by the prefecture, and the surrounding area has been maintained as a small park.

Aoyagikura Monument

Bunzo Aoyagi built a paddy warehouse in Nakazato, his hometown of Matsukawa, in 1931 in order to save the people of Higashiiwai District who were suffering from hunger and disease due to a famine and poor harvest.He wrote the origin of the storehouse in front of it. It is a monument. It is said that thanks to this warehouse, during the Tenpo famine, relief efforts spread throughout the county, and there were no roadside deaths as seen elsewhere. In this way, Bunzo was not only a great benefactor of the disaster relief efforts, but also thought about the good of the world and people, and founded the Aoyagi Bunko in Sendai. He is considered the founder of public libraries in our country.

Kencho Monument

The Kencho Monument, located next to Saimyoji Temple, is a stone pagoda that was erected over 700 years ago and is the oldest monument in Iwate Prefecture. As it is a valuable twin monument, it has been designated as a prefectural tangible cultural property.
