Near the Yoshihama beach in Sanriku-cho, Ofunato, which was hit by a tsunami after the Great East Japan Earthquake, a large stone measuring 3 meters wide and 2 meters high, known as the "Tsunami Stone," was found buried under the ground. The stone had been placed as a monument after being carried out of the sea by a past tsunami.
The stone was carried from the sea and placed as a memorial stone after the tsunami of March 3, 1933.
