Hanamaki Castle, called Toriyazaki Castle in ancient times, is said to have been the home of the Abe clan in the 10th century.
Today, the west gate has been restored and the ruins of the castle are being developed into a park. The area around the park is lined with cherry blossom trees and is crowded with cherry blossom viewers during the cherry blossom season.
