Michinoku Folk Village

One of the largest open-air museums in Tohoku, located within Tenshochi Park. This is an open-air museum where you can experience the life of our ancestors while restoring and preserving old folk houses and historical buildings in the Kitakami River basin. Please enjoy the atmosphere of each season.

Kitakami City Museum (Waga Branch)

Opened in September 2016. In the history corner, you can learn about the entire history from the Paleolithic period to modern times, and there is also a corner to honor our predecessors who contributed to the development of Kitakami. There is also a wide range of exhibits in the natural field, including stuffed animals, specimens of insects, fossils, and minerals.

Swan flying area (new embankment/Sango Bridge)

Swans begin flying around the new embankment and Sango Bridge (Kitakami River) from around late October, and stay until around April of the following year. More than 1,000 swans spend the winter here each year, bringing a sense of peace to visitors. The number of visitors is the highest in the prefecture. To get to the new embankment, take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen Kitakami Station and get off at the Iwate Prefectural Transportation Kitakami Noh High School/Hikashita Line Minami Junior High School bus stop.
