Nagai’s Dainenbutsu sword dance

Nagai's Great Nembutsu Sword Dance, which has been handed down in the Nagai area of Morioka City for about 220 years, is a type of "Kuyoyo Nembutsu," a memorial service for ancestors. It is characterized by the "kasa-haze" dance, in which the dancer wears a large hats with a stupa on the center of a large circular stand on his head and dances with a large swing. In 1980, it was designated as a nationally important intangible folk cultural property. The "Furyu Odori" including "Nagai no Dainenbutsu Kenbai" was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. (2022.11.30)→[ Morioka City Website
