One of the largest open-air museums in Tohoku, located within Tenshochi Park. This is an open-air museum where you can experience the life of our ancestors while restoring and preserving old folk houses and historical buildings in the Kitakami River basin. Please enjoy the atmosphere of each season.

Kabayama Ruins (Kabayama Historical Plaza)

It is the remains of a Jomon period village where the remains of approximately 30 stone structures were discovered during excavations in 1951. The cave dwelling has been restored and is now on display outdoors.

Natsuyu Valley

Natsuyu Valley is located in the upper reaches of the Natsuyu River and is known as a famous spot for autumn leaves. During the fall foliage season, the prefectural road leading to the secret hot spring, Natsuyu Onsen, is bustling with activity. After viewing the autumn leaves, it is fun to soothe your fatigue in the open-air bath along the mountain stream.

Kyozukayama

Mt. Kyozuka (altitude 1372.6m) is one of the three Natsuyu mountains, along with Mt. Ushigata and Mt. Komagatake, and the trailhead is Natsuyu Onsen. 6.1km one way (approximately 240 minutes up, 180 minutes down) The climbing season is from early May, when the road to Natsuyu Onsen opens, until early November, when it closes, but there is a lot of remaining snow in May. From the summit, it is also possible to go to Mt. Yaishishidake.
