Sennin Pass

Yakushi Park

This park is located on a hill in the city center, offering a panoramic view of the city and Kamaishi Bay. Inside the park, there is a statue of a woman erected to comfort the spirits of war victims and pray for peace, as well as a monument commemorating Yosuke Takahashi, who devoted himself to the development of the Kamaishi Steel Works. Approximately 200 cherry trees are in full bloom in spring.

Goyoyama

A mountain with an altitude of 1,351m and semi-plain terrain. It is the highest mountain in the prefecture that is closest to the sea, and the view from the top is great, allowing you to see the entire Sanriku sea. The azaleas are beautiful in the spring and the rhododendrons in the summer, and there is a virgin forest of Japanese cypress trees near the mountaintop, and it has been designated as a prefectural natural park, home to Japanese macaques and the northernmost Japanese deer. It takes about 2 hours to reach the summit from Akasaka Pass, the most popular trailhead. [Mountain opening] April 29th every year

Ozaki Peninsula

Located on the south side of Kamaishi Bay, there is a nature trail from Ozaki Shirahama fishing port to Ozaki Lighthouse. Along the course, there are places such as Ozaki Shrine Okunoin, where Yamato Takeru no Mikoto is enshrined. A considerable number of fir trees can be seen growing naturally on the peninsula, but beech trees can also be seen along with these firs, and it is said that it is especially rare in Japan to see a forest growing wild at the same time.
