Torakuji Temple wooden eleven-faced Kannon statue

Nine Heian Buddha statues, including the eleven-faced Kannon statue, which were enshrined at the foot of Mt. Himegami, are preserved at Torakuji Temple. It has been designated as an Iwate Prefectural Cultural Property, and is said to be one of the best Buddhist statues in the Tohoku region as an eleven-faced Kannon statue.

Ryusendo Cave and Ryusen Shindo Science Museum

Ryusendo Cave is counted as one of the three largest limestone caves in Japan and is also designated as a national natural monument. The length of the cave is already known to be over 4,088m, and the total length is said to reach 5,000m. In addition, fresh water gushing out from the depths forms several underground lakes, and the third underground lake is 98 meters deep and boasts one of the clearest waters in the world. The dragon blue lake water, which hides the breath of nature's finely honed nature, and the countless stalactites inside the cave will transport you to a fantastical world.

Sarugaishi River

The Sarugaishi River, which originates from Mt. Yakushi, flows through the center of the Tono Basin, with water filtered from the Kitakami Mountains. It is known as a ``treasure trove of freshwater fish'' (sweetfish, haya, yamame, etc.) and is popular with many anglers throughout the year.

Yaishishidake

The Yakeishi Mountain Range occupies the northern corner of Kurikoma Quasi-National Park and has 13 mountains over 1,000m. Mt. Yaishishi, at an altitude of 1,548m, is the leader of this mountain range. It has the most remaining snow in the prefecture, and wetlands and ponds have developed everywhere. It is said that more than 300 species of alpine plants grow here, and the vegetation is diverse. Climbing courses include the Nakanuma course and the Tsubunuma course, as well as a traverse course that starts at Natsuyu Onsen and goes via Mt. Kyozuka to Mt. Yaishi. Tendaiji Temple

In this region, the clear water that gushes from the roots of Katsura has been worshiped as sacred water since ancient times. Katsura Shimizu, located at the entrance to the approach to Tendaiji Temple, is a sacred spring that springs from the roots of a Katsura tree that is said to be 1,000 years old. It has been revered as a source of faith since ancient times, and the Katsura tree is the material for the principal image of the Kannon statue, and Tendaiji is also called the ``Katsura Kiyomizu Kannon.''

Hydrangeas at Tendaiji Temple

Tendaiji is an ancient temple with a history of 1200 years. When Jakucho went to work as chief priest at Tendaiji Temple, he called on people to start planting hydrangeas in order to revive the temple grounds, which had fallen into disrepair after the war with cedar trees being cut down. Now, in early summer, deep purple hydrangeas bloom on the stone steps leading up to the shrine and within the precincts, adding a noble color to the ancient temple. Inaniwa Highlands

A grassland that spreads out at the base of Mt. Inaniwa. The path through the virgin beech forest is perfect for forest bathing. A sea of ​​green grass sways in the wind. Cows and horses are grazing leisurely. Such refreshing scenery refreshes both mind and body. Time seems to move slowly here.

Mt. Inaniwa

Inaniwadake is a gentle plateau with an altitude of 1078 meters, and it takes about 40 minutes to walk from the trailhead to the top, making it perfect for hiking. The view from the spacious summit is exceptional, and you can see everything from Mt. Iwate to the Hakkoda Mountain Range. It is possible to climb the mountain in a wheelchair (please inquire).

Joboji lacquerware

Joboji lacquerware began when the monks of Tendaiji invited craftsmen from Kyoto to make fixtures for use at the temple, and has inherited over 1,200 years of history, with Tendaiji culture overlapping. They are made using locally produced lacquer, which boasts the highest quality and quantity in Japan, using a base method called the ``Makiji method.'' It is a solid base with unparalleled strength and does not use water, and is characterized by its simplicity and practicality, with no unnecessary colors or patterns.

Joboji History and Folklore Museum

The exhibits center on lacquerware and lacquer scraping tools from the feudal period, as well as materials related to Tendaiji Temple, as well as stone tools, earthenware, and everyday tools.

gardening workshop

There is a large workshop where you can enjoy viewing seasonal flowers, and there is a wide variety of flowers available throughout the year, which you can also purchase. It is located on the east side of the Ono Campus complex.

Ohno Industrial Design Center

This facility opened in June 1991 to carry out training, research, and production with the aim of creating products that enrich people's lives. There are production facilities such as a wood workshop, an exhibition room for special products including Ohno Woodworking, a restaurant, and an event plaza.
