Iwate Regional Exchange Center “Plaza Ai”

We will create a place for wide-area exchange and collaboration among surrounding municipalities and disseminate information on tourism products, etc. It can be used for a variety of purposes, including a town introduction corner, restaurants, observation corner, event hall, and meeting rooms.

Kamaishi Daikannon

Kamaishi Daikannon stands at the tip of Kamazaki, watching over Kamaishi Bay. The height is 48.5 meters, and the interior is divided into 13 floors, with the 1st to 3rd floors containing the worship hall and the enshrinement room for the 33 Kannons, the 4th to 10th floors are dedicated to the Seven Lucky Gods, and the 12th to 13th floors are where Kannon is held. It is now a fish basket observation deck that appears above the fish. From this observatory at a height of 120 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

Fuji of Fujishima

A huge Nodafuji tree with beautiful branches is located in Kotoridani in the town. The tree is said to be several hundred years old, and in 1932, when it was designated as a natural monument, it had a root circumference of 3.3 meters. It used to get tangled in the branches of a neighboring wig, but that branch has died, so it is now supported by a steel-framed wig. Because it is an old tree, the main trunk has become thinner than before, but new branches have grown, and when the flowering season comes, the smoldering purple flower clusters droop, creating a magical appearance. Former Iya store

When you cross Uenohashi from Honmachi Street, you will see a magnificent black stucco storehouse-style house on the left. Built after the Great Morioka Fire of the Meiji era, this is a clay storehouse-style building that was built by skilled craftsmen with a lot of time and effort. The expressive windows and roof give a rich impression, retaining the vestiges of a wealthy kimono wholesaler. The storehouse in the back is the gallery ``Saisono'' and the coffee shop ``Issaryo.'' Sakura Hall

Kitakami City Cultural Exchange Center "Sakura Hall" opened in November 2003. The exterior of the building is made of glass and has a modern look, with three halls: large, medium, and small. In particular, the stage in the large hall, which spans three floors and has six ``auctions,'' is expected to provide impressive stage productions for various performances. Additionally, there is a recording studio, an acting room for ballet lessons, an atelier for making stage props, a multi-purpose room, a meeting room, and a Japanese-style room. There is a restaurant on the first floor of the building and a counter where you can drink alcohol on the second floor.

Mishōji Temple

A temple where Kenji Miyazawa's grave is located. The main hall is located near Gindoro Park and is located at the top of a narrow stone staircase. Kenji's funeral was held at Anjo-ji Temple (Otani sect of Jodo Shinshu sect), but it is said that he was later reinterred at Mishō-ji Temple. The tombstone is located at the back of the main hall, and it is said that fresh flowers will never run out. In spring, the weeping cherry blossoms on the grounds are spectacular.

“Ame Nimomakezu” poem monument

Kenji Miyazawa retired from Hanamaki Agricultural College in March 1926, moved to this place where the Miyazawa family's second home had been, and began farming, living alone and cooking for himself, and established the Rasu Jijin Association. He gave lectures on chemistry, soil, etc. to farmers. There is a poem monument inscribed with the second half of ``Ame Nimo Makezu'' in November 1936. Additionally, this poem monument is written by Kotaro Takamura.

Morioka Weeping Cherry (National Natural Monument)

This is a temple (Kitayama Ryukokuji) where Takuboku's maternal uncle was the chief priest from 1890 to 1880. It is said that Takuboku often visited here as a boy and received lessons in poetry. The precincts also contain the Morioka weeping cherry tree, a national natural monument, which is a sight to behold in the spring. Flowering period: Late April to early May

Seven waterfalls

It's about a 1.5km climb along Nanatakizawa, which joins the Mabuchi River from Shimofuyube. The 43m waterfall that can be seen through the thicket of trees is the third waterfall, the highest of the seven tiered waterfalls. The Japanese beech that grows wild around the waterfall is the northernmost Japanese beech and has been designated as a natural monument of the town.

Ogao’s weeping wig

A weeping wig found only in Iwate Prefecture. This male tree is approximately 170 years old and 22m tall. The weeping wigs in the city are made from this tree.

The bridge above was built by Toshinao, the lord of the Nanbu domain, over the Nakatsugawa River at the same time as he built Morioka Castle. Of the bronze imitation jewels decorating the railing, eight have inscriptions dated to 1609 (Keicho 14), and 10 have inscriptions dated to 1611 (1611). It is extremely rare that so many remain, and in 1945 it was designated as a nationally important art object.
