Rokkaku Ushiyama

This mountain, which is one of the three Tono mountains along with Mt. Hayachine and Mt. Ishigami, often appears in the Tales of Tono. Altitude: 1,294.3m. Rokujinishi Shrine, located at the foot of the mountain, is said to have been built by Sakanoue Tamuramaro in the Daido era, and its inner shrine is located at the top of the mountain. Rokkakuushi Shrine is located near the Nukano-mae bus stop along the prefectural road heading towards Fuefuki Pass, and from there you can head to the trailhead. As you pass the 2nd station and are surrounded by oak and beech forests, the path becomes steeper, and from around the 6th station, you can enjoy the sight of Japanese plovers. Additionally, the inner shrine of Rokujinishi Shrine can be used as a shelter in case of bad weather. From the top, you can see the mountains of the Kami Mountains, including Mt. Hayachine and Mt. Goyo.

Hiraniwa Kogen

The vast Hiraniwa Plateau, located 800 meters above sea level, is a scenic place designated as a prefectural natural park. Starting with spring's emissaries, katakuris (dogtooth violet) and other marshland plants, followed by the dazzling green of the birch forests in early summer, the azaleas blooming all over the plateau, the autumn leaves in fall, and skiing in winter, this is a field where one can enjoy nature to the fullest throughout the year. Iwate Prefecture Prefectural Forest

It was established as a place for prefectural residents to spread emotional connection through greenery. There are many types of wild birds and plants, making it an ideal place for nature observation, forest bathing, and recreation.You can also use the forest learning exhibition hall and wood craft center.

Beetle contact dome

Beetle Fureai Dome" releases many beetles inside the dome, and visitors can easily touch them. During the season, approximately 10,000 beetles are released. Open from early July to early August every year.

Tendai Sect Myokenyama Kuroishi Temple

It is said to have been founded by Bodhisattva Gyoki in the first year of the Tenpyo Period (729) of the Nara Era and was called Tokozan Yakushiji Temple, but was destroyed by fire. Later, in 849, Jikaku Daishi restored the temple, which is an old temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. The main statue of Yakushi Nyorai (seated Yakushi Nyorai), designated as a National Important Cultural Property, is Japan's only Jokan-inscribed Buddha, inscribed in the 4th year of Jokan. From the night of the seventh day of the seventh lunar month to the next morning, the "Kuroishiji So-min Festival," a festival of naked men and flames, is held to pray for the exorcism of bad luck and a good harvest. (The Kuroishi Temple Sunmin Festival has not been held since 2025.)

Geibikei Gorge

One of Japan's top 100 views. It is an approximately 2 km long gorge created by the Satetsu River eroding limestone, with approximately 100 m cliffs rising on both banks. The current is calm, and you can hear the boatman's song ``Geibi Oiwake'' as you go down the boat.

Ishigamiyama

This mountain, which is counted as one of the Three Mountains of Tono along with Mt. Hayachine and Mt. Rokkaku Ushiyama, has been climbed since ancient times as a mountain of faith and training. (Altitude: 1,038m) A mountain where you can enjoy 305 species of plants in 75 families, including gentian and trumpet. Pass through the wooden torii gate, follow the farm road in the forest, and climb through the larch forest to reach the cedar plantation. When you see the scree on your left, you'll see a chain-locked area, and the Okumiya is located on a ledge-like area with a steep rocky area in the background, offering a wonderful view. Above the inner shrine, there are two chains of about 20 meters in height, which are difficult for beginners and require caution even for advanced climbers. From the summit, you can see Mt. Hayachine and Mt. Rokkakuushi, and the Tono Basin spreads out below those peaks.

The "hittsumi" at Densetsuen, which is made with plenty of chicken bones, has a rich yet refreshing taste and is greatly appreciated by the locals.
