Coast

The Iwate Prefecture coast, where the Oyashio and Kuroshio currents meet, is one of the world’s three major fishing grounds and a treasure trove of fresh seafood.
In addition to the marine delicacies available in each area, the scenery sculpted by the unique geographical features of Sanriku, such as Kitayamazaki with its long stretch of 200-meter cliffs, Unosu Dangai (Cormorant’s Nest Cliffs), and the government-designated scenic spot of Jodogahama Beach, are simply breathtaking.
The Hashino Iron Mine, a part of the World Heritage Site, Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining, is located in this area.
